'Alma Bryant New, age 90 was born January 29, 1921 the daughter of the late Andy and Chloe Young Bryant. She departed this life, Saturday afternoon, April 30th at her home surrounded by her attentive family.On March 17, 1947 she united in marriage with Quillie New who passed away May 6th, 1976.She is survived by her daughters: Carol and her husband Joe Shearer and Susan and her husband Menvil Dishman.Also surviving is her sisters, Zella Perdue of Oklahoma: Five grandchildren, J.B. (Lisa) Powell; Jeffery (Katina) Shearer; Jason (Lee Ann) Dishman, Allison (Gabe) Heatherly, Sarah (Eric) Bertram: Fifteen great grandchildren, Whitley and Brandon Powell; Kayla and Matthew Gregory; Trevor, Nicholas and Emily Shearer; Zachary, Ammsley and Emma Dishman; Andrew, Monica and Isaac Bertram; Adeline and Abigail Heatherly.She is preceded in death by her grandson, William Bryant Shearer: granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Powell and her brothers, Paul and Frank Bryant.Early in her marriage she served as Postmaster of the Gregory and Pueblo General Stores and Post Offices. A retired school teacher, she taught at Rolly Creek, Gregory, Big Sinking and the Wayne County Elementary School over a span of thirty years.One of her great joys was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma loved to sing at the church where she taught Sunday School and went on mission trips with her church family at First Baptist in Monticello. She enjoyed people and was an active member of the Homemakers, Senior Citizens and Canasta Club. Going to the lake and camping with her family was a delight.Alma always had a friendly word and smile for all and will ever be in our hearts.
