'Artena Morrow New, 87 years of age, and a resident of Monticello, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 surrounded by her family at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain.

She was born March 19, 1926 in Delta, Kentucky in Wayne County. Artena was raised in Kentucky before coming to Henrietta Township in the early 1950\u0027s. She moved back to Kentucky in 1973 before coming back to Ohio where she had resided for the last three years until her passing.

Her primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. She was a member of the Monticello Baptist Tabernacle Church in Kentucky. Artena was also a member of the Monticello Senior Citizens Center. Artena enjoyed quilting, canning and listening to blue grass music. Her greatest joy was caring for her family.

Survivors include her son and his wife Eddie Lee and Karen New of Amherst; her grandchildren Judy (Doug) Lutz, Michael (Carrie) New, Steven New, and Randy New; her great grandchildren Lindsey New, Madison New and Brandon New and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years Rev. Leo New in October of 1986; her brothers Hayden, Hobert, James and Lee Morrow; her sisters Mollie and Flora who died in infancy and Mallie Hammond; and her parents Charlie and Goetha Morrow (nee: Dalton).

Friends may call Friday, February 28, 2014 , from 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Additional Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 5-9 p.m. at the Hickey and Son Funeral Home; 340 N. Main Street, Monticello, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the Hickey and Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Jonesville Cemetery, Kentucky.
