Obituary

'Betty Dawes Tucker, 77, a longtime resident of the Spann Hill community of Wayne County, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 13, 2019 at the UK Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY.

Betty was born on September 11, 1941 in Monticello, KY to the late Robert and Grace New Dawes and was one of five children raised on a small farm on Spann Hill. She attended Spann Hill Elementary and was a 1960 graduate of Wayne County High School.

In 1961, Betty met and began dating Schuyler Tucker, Jr. and, on January 3, 1964 they were married. Betty was a longtime member of Spann Hill Baptist Church where she served as the treasurer of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) since 2002 and the meal planner for church functions, church family, and those in the Spann Hill community.

Along with her love for Jesus, Betty loved to socialize, enjoyed preparing good food, exploring flea markets, playing games with family and friends, and spoiling everyone's children. She, also, greatly treasured the many friendships she made during her 30+ years working at the Monticello Manufacturing Co. known to many as "The Shirt Factory."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Schuyler Tucker, Jr. and her three brothers: Charles Eugene, Beryl William, and Beecher Ward Dawes. She is survived by her only sister, Mae Dawes Dick (Bro. Kenneth), a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends who mourn her passing.

We will always remember Betty's quick wit, her smile, her energy, and her love for life, family, and friends. We invite you to join us in celebrating Betty's life at the Hickey Funeral Home in Monticello, KY. Visitation is Friday, March 15, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 16, from 8:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m.',
