Obituary

'Brother Curtis Burnett was born April 12, 1935 the son of the late Matthew Reuben and Stella Smith Burnett. He passed away suddenly, Monday morning, February 11, 2013 at this home in the Cooper community of Wayne County.

On January 13, 1960 he united in marriage with his wife of 53 years Vela Burnett who survives. To this union three children survive: Carolyn and her husband Ronnie Carrender: Daniel and his wife Kippe Burnett and Jerry Burnett.

Also surviving are his siblings: Irene Simpson and Guy Burnett and five grandchildren: Nikki Burnett; Justin Carrender; Kyle Carrender; Courtney Carrender and Olivia Burnett with numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.

He is preceded in death by his sisters: Betty Fairchild; Jewell Burnett and Mary Hurt.

As a young man he had accepted Christ as his Savior and became a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. In 1967 Bro. Curtis surrendered to the call of ministry and became the pastor of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Through the following years Bro. Curtis pastored Fall Creek Baptist Church; Concord Baptist Church; was pastor three separate terms at the Parnell Baptist Church; Big Springs Baptist Church twice; Chestnut Grove Baptist Church twice and the Missouri Hollow Baptist Church. Bro. Curtis was also responsible for a Thursday evening preaching service at the Wayne County Jail for the last seven years. Bro. Curtis was presently a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
