'Delmer George Corder, age 85 was born in the Ritner community of Wayne County, December 22, 1928, the son of the late Steve and Janie Young Corder. He departed this life, Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Unit in Somerset.

On July 9, 1953 he united in marriage with Thelma Jean Worley Corder who survives. To this union two sons were born: Johnny Dell Corder who passed away at the age of 10 and Thomas Gene Corder who survives with his wife Brenda: and son Dylan Corder.

Also surviving is his only sister: Wilma and her husband Fred Tucker with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.

He is preceded in death by his sisters: Gladys McDonald, Reba Simpson, Imogene Walker and his brothers: Thedford Corder.

Delmer served his country with honor during the Korean War with infantry recognizance where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He served his community also: he was a deputy sheriff from 1978 to 1981 and again from 1986 to 1989; he also served as magistrate from 1990 to 1994 and was Wayne County Jailer from 1982 to 1985. As a young man he accepted Christ as his Savior and was a faithful and attentive member and Deacon of the Faith United Baptist Church.
