Dolores Faye
Morris
October 3, 1936 – January 28, 2026
Dolores Faye Morris was born October 3, 1936, to the late Gilmer and Marie Young Morris at Cooper, Kentucky. She departed this walk of life Wednesday, January 28, 2026, reaching the age of 89 years.
Her grandparents were Floyd and Mae Edwards Young and Albert and Arrisa Dishman Morris. She had one sister, Barbara Morris who died November 29, 2014. She was preceded in death by 3 siblings in infancy, her parents, sister, and grandparents. She is survived by many cousins and friends that mourn her passing.
She attended elementary school at Number One. She went to the eighth grade at Wayne County High School. While in High School, she worked in Mr. Lloyd's office and helped Miss Eva Shearer take up lunch money. At sixteen, she started working for the IGA after school and during the summer. This experience helped her meet the public. She graduated from Wayne County High School in May 1955. After she graduated from college, she worked for the IGA during the summer.
After graduation, she went to Cumberland College in the summer of 1955. She went to the fall term of 1955-56 and in the summer of 1956. She graduated from Cumberland Junior College in August 1956. While at Cumberland, she worked for Dr. Boswell, President of the College. The summer of 1956, she worked for Ms. Mac, Dean of Women. Both experiences were great. Cumberland College influenced her life and helped her become a success. She felt that she was a stronger Christian for graduating from Cumberland College. After Cumberland, she taught school and finished getting her degree by going to school on Saturday and during the summer. She received her BS degree in 1961 and her master's degree in 1965 at Eastern Kentucky University.
She retired from Monticello Independent School in May, 1986 after teaching 30 years, She taught in the following capacities: One year in a one room school without water or electricity at Missouri Hollow; 4th grade at Monticello Elementary for 9 years; 5th grade in Fairborn, Ohio for 3 years; 7th and 8ål grade at Monticello Middle School in different subject areas as the need arose for 17 years (Kentucky History, U.S History, math, English, Chapter one math and reading, and enrichment 1-8)
In additional to teaching Responsibilities: She was the coach for the Junior High Math Bowl for 8 years; Coach for Math Counts for 6 years; Co-Coach of the Monticello Middle School academic team for 8 years; Monticello High School Cheerleader sponsor for 8 years; chaperoned Monticello seniors on trips to Washington, New York, and Florida; Supervised student teacher in Ohio; Supervised 3 participating students from Miami University,
After retiring from Monticello Independent School, in the fall of 1986, she evaluated teachers in Pulaski and Woodford Counties for the State Department in Frankfort under the Career Ladder that was funded for one year. In 1988, she substituted at Monticello for a couple of years. In 1991, Eastern University asked her to supervise student teachers. She supervised students in Laurel, Pulaski and Wayne for 16 years. This was the highlight of her teaching career.
She held professional membership with the Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Member of NEA9 MEA, and KRTA; Served as Secretary for the Association of Classroom Teachers of Kentucky; Treasurer for the Wayne County Retired Teachers; and secretary for the Historical Society.
Civic Responsibilities included: 4-H Club Leader for 26 years-Judged speech contests (county & region). Served of SOS Council for 2 years. Wayne County Easter Seal Co-Chairperson for 22 years. Served as Coordinator for the Easter Seal Basketball Shootout for 1 1 years. Chairperson for the United States Bicentennial Committee for Wayne Co. Chairperson for the Kentucky Bicentennial Committee for Wayne County. Member of the Bicentennial Committee for Wayne Co. Celebration in 2002. Board Member for Wayne Public Library for 16 years. Treasurer for the Wayne Public Library for eight years. She also wrote an unpublished History of Cooper Baptist Church and an unpublished History of The Young Family.
Dolores and her family went to Cooper Baptist Church after her dad helped build the Church. She was saved and baptized in the creek there by the Church. Taught Sunday School for 32 years; secretary-treasurer for WMU; Principal of Vacation Bible School for 16 years; taught Vacation Bible School for 20 years; taught training union for 30 years and was youth leader for 27 years. After her dad died, she and her mom moved their membership to First Baptist Church. She taught pre-school there and a Sunday School Class of 5 th Graders. She helped deliver meals to the shut-ins and has been on cooking teams. She served as principal of Vacation Bible for 3 years at First Baptist.
She was a loving daughter, sister, teacher and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 5 PM – 8 PM and Sunday, February 8, 2026, starting at 10 AM in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 1 PM at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: First Baptist Church.
