Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the life of an adored daughter, wife, sister, aunt, and a faithful servant of God. Doris Louise Tucker was born on May 28, 1940, in Alpha, Kentucky, to the late Henry and Woody (Burris) Guffey. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the age of 85.

Doris is survived by her sisters, Betty Rains, Gladys (Ralph) Story, and Elsie Hicks; her sisters-in-laws, Joann Guffey and Irene Guffey, along with many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thurman Tucker, whom she married on February 20, 1976; her brothers, Montie Guffey, Bradley Guffey, and Cecil Guffey; her sisters, Evelyn “Cricket” Hurt, Lucy Guffey, Reba Blackburn.

Doris was a woman whose life reflected grace, compassion, and unwavering faith. Her love for the Lord was evident in everything she did. She had a special gift for teaching others of the things she loved, from making home made apple pies, canning tomato juice, cross-stitching pillow cases, and especially leading the crafts class at Old Bethel Bible Church VBS. All were blessed by both her creative talents, sense of humor, caring spirit, and knowledge of the Bible. Her Church, and Church family held a very special place in her heart, and she cherished every opportunity to fellowship and serve alongside those she loved so dearly.

Known for her quick wit and delicious dishes, she could brighten even the hardest days with a clever remark, or her potato salad, or home-made banana pudding. Some of the sweetest memories made were around the table sharing meals and laughter, spending precious time with the little ones who loved visiting their Aunt Doe. Surrounded by her family brought her the greatest happiness along with sharing about God’s promises and love to all.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and kindness, and love that will continue to live on in all who knew her. Though her absence leaves an ache in our hearts, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she loved so deeply.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Old Bethel Church Cemetery.
