Obituary

'Dovie Phillips, was born July 7th, 1922, in the Cedar Hill community of Wayne County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Hammond Phillips. She passed away April 4th, 2015 at 5 in the morning, peacefully in her sleep, reaching an age of ninety two years, eight months.

She was the last member of the Arthur and Mary Hammond Phillips family. Her mother passed away when Dovie was quite young. She went to live with her brother, Claude and Vina Phillips in the Freedom Community in 1930 and lived with them until the 1960's when she went to Indiana to help care for Phyllis and Gene Foster's children. She moved back to Wayne County in the early 1970's and started taking care of elderly people and worked at care giving as long as her health permitted. In 1986 she made her home at her trailer at Phyllis and the late Luid Martin's home and lived there till her passing. Dovie was blessed to help care for several elderly people here in Wayne County. She was a wonderful Christian lady, having been a member of the Freedom United Baptist Church since 1941. She was a lifelong member and the oldest member of that Church.

She is survived by a half-brother, John Phillips of Amherst, Ohio. Also surviving is her care giver and nieces, Phyllis Martin and her family; Rev. Larry, Vickie, Tim and Mike Foster, Richard Martin and a great niece, Rhonda Bell who helped her every way they could.

She considered Claude and Vina Phillips her family. Her surviving immediate family is: Attlean Kennedy, Phyllis Martin, Evalee Branscum, Helen Coffey, Obie, Raymond, Sam, Danny, and Pleaz Phillips.

She is preceded in death by her nephews; Jeffery Foster and Dewey, Allen and Hobert Phillips; her brothers: Rev. Elisha Phillips, Claude, Owen and Roy Phillips; sisters: Sarah Jane Corder and Vina Godsey; an infant brother and two infant sisters; half-brother, Hulen Phillips and a half sister, Gladys Bowlin.

She leaves many great, great-great and great-great-great-nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. She loved them all and will be sadly missed. As the Bible says, 'a barren woman is a mother to many.'

As tears silently flow, we will be reminded of all the good times when we all were in good health, being in church together so many times, working together for a lot of years, now we thank the Good Lord for blessing us to be together all those years; may you rest in peace! 'A life well lived is a blessing forever.' We'll see you on Heaven's bright shore!
