'Elizabeth Amanda Shelton Caylor was born on Beaver Creek in Wayne County, Kentucky the first child and daughter of George L Shelton Sr. and Ila Maupin Shelton. She was a graduate of Windy High School, Lindsey Wilson College and the University of Kentucky. She began her teaching career at Gans Bottom in Wayne County followed by Somerset High School, Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky and Maple Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Her final teaching position was as a Professor at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, retiring emeritus in 1987. Upon retirement she returned to Wayne County and resided in the Frazier community.
Elizabeth was the widow of James C. Caylor who gave his life during World War II while serving his country in France.
She is survived by her only daughter, Linda Caylor Tate, her husband John and two grandsons, John Allan Tate III and James Caylor Tate. She is also survived by one brother, Rev. George L. Shelton Jr., his wife Rena; one sister, Jenny Allene Dabney; sister-in-law, Lottie Shelton and brother-in-law, Ed Lee Caylor.
Preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, James and Lafayette Shelton.
Elizabeth was an active member of the New Salem Baptist Church and a devout Christian. She was a member of the Wayne County Extension Homemakers, The Monticello Womens Club and longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a kind caring friend to all who knew her.
