Obituary

'Ella Elvira Bertram Barnes, 84, of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Barnes was born November 14, 1926 in Wayne County, Kentucky to the late Johnny Bertram and the late Bessie Dishman Bertram. She had resided in Monticello, Kentucky before moving to Western North Carolina in 2006 to be with her daughter and son-in-law where they had most recently made their home in Waynesville for the past 3 years. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church and later Lockett\u0027s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Monticello chapter of the Eastern Star and had also served as an officer for the Kentucky State Chapter of Eastern Star. Mrs. Barnes loved quilting, crocheting, gardening and cooking. Ella was a gracious hostess and her home was truly a gathering place for family and friends where everyone was made to feel welcome and loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Earl Barnes who passed away in 2003; a son, James David Bertram; a brother, Charles Bertram; and a sister, Glenna Hurt.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Earlene Clark and her husband, Ron Clark of Waynesville; grandchildren, Nathaniel Clark of Waynesville, Nicholas Clark of Gosford, Australia, and Allison Clark of Waynesville; a sister, Grace Hall of Jamestown, Kentucky; and a brother, Reverend Clarence Bertram of Campbellsville, Kentucky.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Hickey and Son Funeral Home in Monticello, Kentucky with the Reverend Bob Schaeffer officiating. Burial will be in Elk Springs Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 5pm until 9pm Friday at Hickey and Son Funeral Home in Monticello, Kentucky. Eastern Star rites will be conducted at 7pm.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer\u0027s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
