'Elza Shearer, was born in the Frazer community of Wayne County, September 26, 1919 the son of the late Barton and Cloda Wallace Shearer. He departed this life Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the Wayne County Hospital reaching an age of 96 years.
On November 4, 1946 he united in marriage with Eva Jean Bell Shearer who passed away October 3, 2001. To this 54-year union five children survive: Betty Jo and her husband Glenn Correll, Sue and husband Ross Sanders, Lorrene and her husband Gerald Maxwell, Ernest and his wife Debbie Shearer and Harvey and wife Cindy Shearer. Two children Howard Shearer and an infant daughter Delores precedes him in death.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Melinda Maxwell, Erik and Brandon Sanders, Brandon and Chris Lester, Matthew, Brian, Austin and Aaron Shearer; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Shearer was the last surviving member of the Barton Shearer family. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Allen Shearer, Ermon Hatfield, Margie Dick and two infant siblings.
Mr. Shearer was a farmer, he grew crops, he grew a family and he grew friends. He served his country with honor during the Second World War in Europe and served his Lord as a lifelong member of the Tuttle\u0027s Chapel United Methodist Church.
