Floyd Johnnie Dick was born March 27, 1921, and departed this life Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022–reaching the age of 101. He was the son of (the late) Isaac G. and Ottie (Morrow) Dick.
On May 10, 1947, Floyd united in marriage with Mildred Irene (Roberts) Dick. They were blessed with a daughter, Kathy Vickery and a son, Gary Dick; five grandchildren: Darran and Derrick Vickery, Keri Foy, Lindsay Schott, and Wesley Dick, and great grandchildren: Ben, Luke, Allie, Kaden, and Karson Vickery; Olivia, Miles, and Vivienne Foy; Carter and Emma Schott; and Brody and Sam Dick; son-in-law: Dan Vickery, and daughter-in-law: Barbara Dick.
Floyd is survived by his sister, Wilma Dick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Dick: April 15, 2013, as well as four sisters: Zollie Dick, Dorothy Roberts, Bernice Dick, and Mary Daniel; and four brothers: Lloyd Dick, Cecil Dick, Ellis Dick, and Lawrence Dick.
Floyd served our country during World War II, serving in the U.S. Army between August 1942 and the fall of 1945, and achieved the rank of corporal in the Quartermaster Corps. After returning home to Big Sinking, he began his career as an auto mechanic and worked for several dealerships over the course of nearly 40 years. He retired from Stearns Motor Company in the early 1980s.
Floyd was an active member of Big Sinking Baptist Church. He attended Big Sinking for most of his life and deeply loved his church family. He served many roles in the church including groundskeeper and treasurer alongside maintenance and custodial duties. He was instrumental in the growth of the church through various projects.
In his spare time and, depending on his season in life, you could find Floyd small game hunting, playing baseball or softball, golfing, tending his garden, or going on walks with Mildred. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and supported UK and Wayne County athletics.
Floyd was a loving and dedicated husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, relative and friend who will be sadly missed.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15, 2022, between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 2 pm at the Big Sinking Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Roberts Family Cemetery. (Full military honors will be provided by our local DAV Chapter 105.)
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Big Sinking Baptist Church, Roberts Cemetery, and Dick Cemetery.
