'Gary A, Shearer M.D., 69 years old, was born February 7th, 1945 to David and Frances Shearer of Monticello, Kentucky. He grew up on a farm and loved collecting arrowheads. He was baptized at an early age at the First Baptist Church. Gary Attended Wayne County High School where he enjoyed playing basketball as a point guard. Following high school, he attended Western Kentucky University where he played basketball as a freshman. After graduating he went to University of Louisville School of Medicine. As a freshman there, he ranked 17 in a class of 92 students. He was aw2arded membership of ACA, National Honor Society. This honor is in recognition of achievement and leadership in the field of medicine. He graduated on May 14th, 1972 with honors. He also joined the National Guard and dedicated six years to service. Five of those were spent as Battalion Surgeon.
He was a dedicated, compassionate family physician from over 40 years, often helping those you could not afford health care. He worked long hours just so every patient could be seen. In April of 1988, he was selected out of 200 citizens as the person who had donated the most time and energy to the community.
Gary loved spending his time off surrounded by family and friends. He loved horses, boating, fishing and watching basketball games.
Above everything, Gary supported and adored his three children: Jason (Kim) Shearer of Burlington, KY, Ashley (Michael) Keene of Oak Ridge, TN and Gary Shearer, Jr of Florence, Kentucky. You could hear it in his voice how much he loved his grandchildren: Mila and Stella Shearer of Burlington, Maximus, Presley Rose and Cassius Keene of Oak Ridge. Other relatives include his siblings: Patricia Huffaker of Monticello, David Shearer of Naples, Florida and Karen (Hardin) Phillips of Monticello.
