Hazel (Bell) Corder, widow of Kohler Corder and mother of Russell and Bruce Corder was born on June 23, 1927 and departed this life at the Wayne County Hospital on February 7, 2021.

Her parents, Ronzo and Mary (Phillips) Bell, her husband Kohler and son, Russell all proceeded her in death.

Hazel was the only child of Ronzo and Mary and grew up in the Slavans, Ky Community.  She graduated from Wayne Co. High School, attended Western Ky. University and Eastern Ky. University where she earned her Associate degree in education.

Her first job was teaching in a one-room school located in an area so remote that her transportation was a horse.

On December 6, 1946 she was united in marriage with Kohler Corder and became the mother of two sons and ended her teaching career.  Later she worked for the Wayne Co. School System and eventually retired from The Monticello Banking Co. where she worked for many years.

Hazel's faith was very evident, beginning at Concord Baptist Church, ending at Elk Spring Valley where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for 65 years.  She had a deep love for her church, her family, her many friends and that love was returned in so many ways.  She came into this world as a beautiful person and left it the same way.  How lucky we are to have had her as a part of our lives.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 11, 2021 between 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 1 pm at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and upon recommendations from the Governor's Office for Funeral Homes, there will be some restrictions for service attendance. You are asked to please wear a mask or facial covering and observe the social distancing guidelines. No communal food or drinks are allowed at this time.
