Clark
March 20, 1933 – December 25, 2024
Hurstle Clark was born on March 20, 1933, in the Turkey Creek area of Monticello, and he passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 91. He was the son of the late Sherman and Alcie (Morrow) Clark.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cloteen Keith, with whom he celebrated 73 wonderful years of marriage after their union on September 13, 1951. Hurstle is also survived by; two daughters, Ellen (Larry) McKinley, and Edith (Wayne) Taylor; one son; Allen (Sandy) Clark; one sister, Lucille Mize; and seven grandchildren, Sara Beth (Barrett) Harris, Diane (Cleve) Wright, Mark (Peggy) McKinley, Amity (Brad) Jones, Brandon (Ashlee) Taylor, Amanda (William) Criswell, and Grant (Jennifer) Clark.
In addition, he is survived by eighteen great-grandchildren: Myra & Owen Harris, Chloe (Jarred) Kappers, Emma Wright, Mati, Karley, & Taylor Jones, Levi Taylor, Callie (Jacob) Morgan, Isabelle and Clark Phillips, Clay & Caroline Criswell, Mia Phillips, Harlow, Harper and Penelope Clark; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
Hurstle was preceded in death by two brothers: Vernon Clark and Robert Clark: five sisters: Addie Vaughn, Artie Hammond, Carrie Lee Sexton, Adell Thompson, and Mary Cooper; and one grandson-in-law, Robert Phillips.
In the 1960s, as a young dad, Hurstle found salvation and was baptized during a revival at Zion Baptist Church. Following his baptism, he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at various churches where he and his family were members. While a member of Elk Ridge Baptist Church, he felt called to preach and was ordained to share the gospel through that church on December 12, 1976. Hurstle faithfully preached in several churches during revivals and first served as a pastor of Lower Turkey Creek Baptist Church, followed by Piney Grove United Baptist Church #2 in Bronston, KY, where he devoted approximately 30 years of service as long as his health permitted. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Piney Grove United Baptist Church #2.
In addition to his ministry, Hurstle worked in various lumber mills, as a factory worker, and as a mail carrier. He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a passion for mowing his yard, gardening, building various projects- including his own home- whittling and reading his Bible.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 5 PM – 8 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 1 PM at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel with a burial to follow in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: Hospice of Lake Cumberland or Gideon Bible Plan.
