'James Ray Craig, age 62 was born in Monticello, October 20, 1943 the son of the late John and Dovie May Davis Craig. He departed this life suddenly, Sunday, May 1st at his home.
He was united in marriage with Eva Colleen Burke Craig, February 21, 1964, she departed this life February 24, 2001. To this 34 year union two children survive: William Charles -Chuck- and his wife Kim Craig and Melissa and her husband Rex Cassidy.
Also surviving are his sisters: Sue Gillespie and Melinda Morris and his brother, Johnny Craig: His special friend, Glenda Durham and Mrs. Grace Ramsey who was a most influential part of his life.
James Ray served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home he began working at the Wayne Auto Part until his health forced his retirement 34 years later. He was a member of the American Angus Association and partner in Dry Ford Gates. James Ray was a member of Monticello Lodge #431. He was also very active in the Wayne County Chapter of the DAV and a key figure in the Funeral Honor Guard Detail.
As a young man he had accepted Christ as his Savior and was a member of the Monticello First Baptist Church and attended the Monticello Church of Christ with his family.
He was a loving father and devoted husband and certainly a friend to all.
