'Howard Rankin, age 94 was born April 21, 1913 the son of the late Samuel Allen and Florence Tuggle Rankin. He departed this life Saturday, May 19th at his home.
On December 20th 1942 he united in marriage with his wife of 57 years, Leva Roberts Rankin who precedes him in death.
Surviving are two children, his daughter Dianne and her husband James M. Frazer and Allen and his wife Teresa Gregory Rankin; four grandchildren, Nan and her husband Ernie Hanley, Rankin Frazer, Greg Rankin and Corey Rankin with one great granddaughter, Kelsey McKay Hanley and the last of twelve siblings, Clodie McDowell.
Howard went into the grocery business at the age of 16, and owned and operated Rankin-s Kentucky Food Store for the past 77 years. He served as Wayne County Judge from 1950 to 1954 and served on the Monticello City Council for 33 years. At age 21, he was the youngest person ever elected to the Monticello City Council and at age 89 the oldest elected to serve. He was a charter member of the Monticello Lions Club.
Howard was a faithful member of the First Christian Church for 81 years where he served as Deacon for over 50 years a had perfect Sunday School attendance for 40 years.
