'John Vernon -Vern- Eaton, age 86 was born February 9, 1926 in Seligman, Arizona, the son of the late John George and Dollie A. Mills Eaton. He passed away Friday afternoon, June 22, 2012 at his home in Monticello.

Vern Had his first horse at age 5 and helped herd the family cattle; later he worked as a ranch laborer and plasterer in Texas, New Mexico, California and Arizona. He served in the US Navy during the Second World War.. In the 1970-s he settled in Phoenix where he worked 40 years as plasterer and became an expert in specialty finishes. A very talented man Vern was experienced in construction, cabinet making, mechanics, garden and yard work and a general handyman.

On July 25, 1982 he united in marriage with Phyllis Ann Rader Eaton at the Rader Family Reunion in Indiana. The resided in Phoenix until in 1988, they traveled several months in their motor home before settling in Clinton County, KY. They moved to their present home in Wayne County in 1999.

Also surviving are his daughters: Stormy Eaton and Verna May Eaton of Atkins, Arizona; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren: Heather Otterholt and her children, Angela and Juliet all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Aimee Otterholt Rhoads and her daughter Kaile Rhoads both of Phoenix, Arizona; Jeffery Otterholt and son Jonah Otterholt of Phoenix and daughter; Rayanna Otterholt of New York; Step son- Richard Shehann; step grandchildren: Richard Shehann II, Amanda Shehann, Nathan and Nicole Shehann and step great grandchildren: Sage and Lindsey; and his sister: Elda (Marion) Frock and brother: Lawrence Eaton. He is preceded in death by his brother: Ernest Eaton.
