Obituary

'John C. Perdue, age 88 was born in the Gap Creek community of Wayne County, June 4, 1921 the son of the late James C. and Maggie Davis Perdue. He departed this life Saturday, July 4th at Britthaven of Somerset.

On July 23, 1945 he united in marriage with Mona Lucille Massengale Perdue who survives. To this 64 year union two children survive; Betty Ann and her husband James Studer and Bro. Vernon Ray and his wife Mary Perdue.

Also surviving are five grandchildren; John and his wife Temesia Perdue, David Perdue, Timothy and his wife Patty Studer, Tamara and her husband Christopher Griffin and Tina Studer; along with nine great grandchildren.

John was the last survivor of the James Perdue family. His siblings Ruth Upchurch, Henry, Otto and Paul Perdue all precede him in death.

Corporal John C. Perdue served his country with honor during the Second World War, as a Mortar Gunner in the Infantry. He witnessed combat in Northern France, Germany and Central Europe, was wounded and a recipient of a Purple Heart.

He had accepted Christ as his Savior and was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.
