John Allan Tate, Jr., age 75 of Monticello, KY passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born May 24, 1945 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Clo Ellis Tate and John Allan Tate, Sr.  On April 15, 1968 he married the love of his life Linda Caylor Tate.

He graduated from General Motors Institute in 1967.  He served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army. He worked as an Engineer and Production Manager for General Motors for 42 years, from 1963 to 2005.

John took his family to the other side of the world and back, moving to the Philippines from 1974 to 1978.  However, the love his family has for him goes well beyond this world.  He was tougher than nails, yet as kind and caring as they come.  He was a quiet, yet funny and fun person who loved God, and his family and friends, dearly.  He considered himself a Monopoly and Scrabble champion, but others may dispute that assessment.  He was an extraordinary man who lived life simply, without the need for praise or awards.  His biggest need was to know he was providing and caring for those he loved. He was always the calm and cool rock that his family leaned on in difficult times, and he provided for them and lead them through many more joyous times, as well.  He will be dearly missed and loved forever in our hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Caylor Tate of Monticello, KY; son and daughter-in-law, John Tate III and Marianna Camelia Tate of Monticello, KY; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Emily Tate of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Tate, Summer Tate, Sam Tate, Weezie Tate; step-grandchildren, Margaret Restifo and Suamj Restifo; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Lois Tate of Destin, FL.

A service will be held at the Hickey Funeral Home in Monticello. With the current quarantine situation, the funeral will be immediate family only, but the presence of those that he loved and cared for will be felt.
