Obituary

Kirby Reed Ringley was born to Lawrence E. and Retta M. Hill Ringley in Overton County Tennessee March 25, 1930, the ninth of ten children. He is the last child of the Lawrence and Retta Ringley family to be called home to Heaven on May 3, 2022.

Kirby attended Clear Fork school in Clinton County. At the age of 21, Kirby entered the Navy. In the spring of 1952, he gave his heart to our Lord Jesus Christ and joined the First Christian Church in Albany, Kentucky and remained a member there until the autumn of 1959 when he joined Elk Spring Valley Baptist Church where Kirby served as Sunday School teacher, church treasurer for seventeen years, and Deacon until his death. Kirby has been a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1951. He also served in the Wayne County Junior Chamber of Commerce in the late 50's and during the 60's. He also served on the Monticello City Council in the late 60's. God called Kirby into the Gideons October of 1969. While he served in the Gideons, he held the State Office of Area Coordinator for three years, State Office Zone Leader for twelve years, many local camp offices including President of Church Assignment Secretary, helped organize several Gideon camps in Kentucky and one in Tennessee, served in the Gideon jail visitation ministry of Wayne County,  participated in numerous Testament distributions for 5 th Graders, College Students, and Jail Ministries and was as ambassador wherever he went in spreading the gospel through his support of the Memorial Bible Plan.

Kirby and wife Lucille served extensively for several years on the Kentucky Disaster Relief team as needed. Kirby participated and worked in the Emmaus Walk several times. On his very first walk within the first two hours, God used Kirby to share the gospel with another member, who in turn gave his heart to Jesus. God guided Kirby in every vocation throughout his entire life.

In 1977, Kirby started Ringley Tire Shop where he worked for over forty years, retiring in 2017. Kirby was also barber for forty years, a farmer all his life and was a jack of all trades and master of several. In the autumn of 1950, Kirby met Lucille Hoover, volunteered to the Navy February 1951 and married Lucille August 27, 1952. Kirby was honorably discharged from the Navy in March of 1954. Kirby and Lucille decided to make their home in Kentucky after that discharge. Their first child, Kevin was born in the Naval base hospital September 1953, their second child, Kenneth was born in Kentucky in September 1955, and their third child, Cheryl was born in Kentucky in February 1960.

Along with his wife Lucille, Kirby was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence and Retta, one son; Kevin Ringley, one grandson: Anthoney Baker, his siblings; Leida, Delmer, Lester better known as Doc, Morris, Thelma, Anita, Carl, James Paul, and Jack, and a grand dog; Sweet Pea. He is survived by his children; Kenneth (Barbara) Ringley and Cheryl Ringley, and daughter in law; Deborah. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Keith (Susan) Ringley, Kyle Ringley, Kane (Lisa) Ringley, Jeff (Patricia) Baker, and his great- grandchildren; Lindsey Marston, Amber Baker, Kayley Baker, Alicia Baker, and Caitlyn Baker, as well as one grand dog; Peanut. Kirby is a fierce servant of God, dedicated sharer of God's Holy Word and as awesome husband, father, and grandfather who is and will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who know him.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 5 th from 3PM until 4:30 PM with a Masonic service at 4:30. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, May 5 th at 5PM at the Elk Spring Valley Baptist Church. Burial will be Friday, May 6 th at 11AM in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may that the form of donations to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
