'Lewis E. East, age 78 was born in the Meadow Creek, Kentucky, the son of the late Willie Stone and Margaret Elva Thompson East. He departed this life Monday evening, June 23rd at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

On January 25, 1959 he united in marriage with Marie Godsey East who survives. To this 55 year union four children survive; two daughters: Debbie East Rogers of California and Beverly and husband Marlton Loy of Columbia, Kentucky; and two sons: Ray and wife Rita East of Monticello and Major Chaplin Mark and wife Angela East of Vine Grove, Kentucky.

Also surviving is his brother, Kenneth East; grandchildren: Carolyn Sue (Chris) Lovelace, Kathy Marie (Jared) VanArsdall, Marita Katherine East, Mikayla Beth East, Chad Ray (Charity) East, Trevor Scott (Heather) Loy, Lucas Clayton East and John Mark East. Great grandchildren: Ashley Brooke (Steven) Upchurch McGhee, Nikki Danielle and Taylor Renee Upchurch; great-great grandchildren: Noah Wesley McGhee and Caroline Marie Upchurch. And due in September great grandson: Ryder Scott Loy.

Lewis is preceded in death by his siblings: Mary Elizabeth Borgending, Joyce Ann Hamilton, Robert, Ellis, Claude, Timmy and Richard East and two infant sisters: Lennie and Ruth East.

He retired from South Kentucky RECC on July 7, 2000 after 42 years of employment. Lewis professed his faith and attended the Monticello Church of the Nazarene where he attended regularly until death.
