Lula Mae
West
October 18, 1934 – July 7, 2021
Lula Mae West was born into this life on October 18,1934 to the late Marcus and Renda Tucker and took her final breath at her home on July 7th, reaching the age of 86.
She was joined in marriage to Bob West on March 20, 1955. Lula attended Cumberland College and then began teaching in a one room schoolhouse. In 1956 Bob and Lula moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she became a school librarian. In 1991 the couple retired and moved back to their hometown of Monticello. While retired Lula enjoyed playing with her great-grandchildren, knitting, crocheting, and traveling.
Lula was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and most of all she was a devoted follower of Christ and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the Meadow Creek Baptist Church where she served the children of the congregation through Bible classes and vacation bible school.
Lula is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years Bob West and two daughters Sandy (Bill) Riddle, and Norma (Curtis) Lasley. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Jennifer (Scotty) Sexton, Stephanie (Gary) Marshall, Matthew (Kim) Lasley, and Jessica (Bradley) Harris, ten great-grandchildren; Austin (Emily), Kaitilyn (Waylyn), and Hannah Sexton, David and Sarah Marshall, Lindsey and Zachary Lasley, Luke, Alleigh, and Amelia Harris, one great-great granddaughter; Maggie Sexton, and one sister; Betty Casada.
Lula was preceded in death by her parents Marcus and Renda Tucker, brothers; Edward, Fred, Frank, and Phil Tucker, sisters; Mildred Lovell, Maude Walker, and Hettie Tucker.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 10 th from 11 AM until 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10th at 2 PM at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jason Bertram and Bro. Melvin Sisson officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Meadow Creek Baptist Church.
