Obituary

Martin Lewis Huffaker, age 88, passed away on January 10, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.  He was born August 9, 1932 in Susie, Kentuckyto the late Andrew and Marie Cook Huffaker.

Lewis attended elementary school at Number One and Locket's Chapel School and graduated from Wayne County High School in 1949.  Lewis received the Kiwanis Award his senior year in high school.

After graduation, he entered the University of Kentucky and received an R.O.T.C. scholarship.  From 1954 to 1956, he served with the United States Signal Corps as a second and first lieutenant.

In 1957, he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry.

He taught both elementary and high school, served as a Chemist at National Distiller's and Chemical Corporation and worked as Principal Chemist for the Department of Environmental Protection Division of Air Pollution Control in Frankfort, Ky.

He had a love for land, farmed and raised cattle.  Lewis was in his element when it came to drilling for oil and gas and the geological study of potential oil fields.

He is survived by his children:  Melody Davis (Mark), Barry Huffaker and Eric Huffaker (Cheryl). Grandchildren: Heather and Monet Davis, Katisha Hill, Krista Fresquez (Carlos), Tristan Huffaker, Erica Casada, Cheryl Ann Bertram, Elisha Valladares (Miguel), William Huffaker (Whitney), Jordan, Xavier, Magnus and Theodore Huffaker, Janessa McClain (Anthony).

Great-grandchildren: Kinsley and Abbey Hill, Kody Fallon,Briana, Rubin, Grady, Sophia and Aurora Cassada, Megan Dishman (Chase), Aiden , McRae, Genevieve, Harrison and Eleanor Bertram, Kendrick Crabtree, Annabeth Alley, Jackson and Nasaria Valladares, Gavin, Aubrey, Conner and Tinley Huffaker, Orion and Siriya McClain.

Great-great grandchildren: Katy Bryant, Scarlet and Maverick Dishman, Braizy and Xakiah Anderson.

Siblings –Howard Huffaker, Frederick Huffaker (Nancy), Anita Waldrip (Bob).

Preceded in death by his siblings – Louise Caskey, Marguerite Day, Lena David, Jean Wallace, George, David, Raymond and Milton Huffaker.

Due to the covid-19 virus, there will be private visitation at 11am on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at Hickey Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 1pm at Elk Spring Cemeterywith David Phillips officiating. A memorial service is planned for a future date.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
