'Melvin McFarland, age 89 was born in Wayne County, January 6, 1921, the son of the late Robert and Letty Barnes McFarland. He passed away Sunday morning, July 18th, 2010 at the Wayne County Hospital.On April 5, 1947 he united in marriage with Mary Brian Twyford McFarland who survives. To this 63 year union one son survives; Dr. Ronald McFarland of Monticello and his sons, Ross McFarland of San Francisco, California; Todd McFarland and Scott McFarland both of Monticello. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Devin, Kadyn and Carly McFarland and two sisters, Irene Kinnett and Virginia Atwood.He is preceded in death by his grandson, Chris McFarland brothers, C.A. and Tom McFarland and an infant sister, Marie McFarland.Melvin served his country with honor during the Second World War. He was a retired automobile mechanic, an avid golfer and a lifelong member of the Monticello First Baptist Church.
