Nancy Marie (Corder) Higginbotham was born July 16, 1932, and departed this life November 29, 2020, reaching the age of 88 years. She was the daughter of the late James Milton and Dina Corder. She was married to James Higginbotham for 52 years.
She is survived by 3 children and 1 son-in-law, Sandra Jo (Jerry) Gregory, Shelby Gene Higginbotham, Shirley (Sam) Shelton and Roger Dobbs. She was Granny Sam to 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James; 2 daughters, Donna Sue Dobbs and Sylvia (Jerry) Hicks; 1 granddaughter, Laura Marie Dobbs; her parents, James Milton and Dina Corder; and 5 Siblings, Helen Ramsey, Randall Corder, Homer Ray Corder, Mary Ruth Simpson and June Guffey.
Nancy was an avid quilter and had made a quilt for every child and grandchild, plus many others. She enjoyed working puzzles, playing games and watching John Wayne. She retired from the Wayne County School System after serving in the kitchen for almost 20 years.
Nancy was a longtime member of the Parmlesville Baptist Church and later attended the Canada Creek Baptist Church.
She had a contagious laugh and was loved by many. She will be truly missed by all.
PRIVATE visitation service will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. PRIVATE funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2020 (with Facebook Livestream beginning at 12:45pm) at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Due to the current covid-19 situation and upon recommendations from the Governor's Office for Funeral Homes, there will be some restrictions for service attendance. As the number of attendees is limited to 25 people only, a list will be provided to the funeral home by the family. You are asked to please wear a mask or facial covering and observe the social distancing guidelines. No communal food or drinks are allowed at this time.
