Obituary
'Nellie Hammond New was born December 24th, 1920 the daughter of the late Denny and Versa Green Dalton Hammond. She departed this life Saturday, March 14th at the Wayne County Hospital reaching an age of 94 years.
She was united in marriage with her husband, Oscar Everett New who passed away December 3, 1972. To this union four children survive: Geneva Coop and Carolene New both of Albany, Curtis Lee New of Huntington, West Virginia and Edward New of Monticello.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; her brother, Robert Hammond and half siblings, Elizabeth Jo Powels, Wanda Fese, Ronald and Dale Hammond. She is preceded in death by several siblings.
As a young lady, Nellie accepted Christ as her Savior and became a lifetime member of the Zion Baptist Church.
