'Opal Blevins Asbury, 100, of Monticello, Kentucky, passed away in Macon, Georgia, April 2, 2013 surrounded by family.
She was born December 25, 1912 in Langham, Kentucky to Henry and Unie Hurt Blevins and was married to Ray Asbury for 52 years until his death February 13, 1995.
Ms. Asbury was a graduate of Campbellsville College and Morehead State University. She taught school in Wayne County for 32 years where she was affectionally known as Miss Opal to her many beloved school children.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who is survived by two daughters, Glenna (Pat) Meyer, Macon, Georgia; Wilma (Rob) Kumler, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Robyn (Jim) Kumler-Gross, Piner, Kentucky; Kris (Mandy) Kumler; Louisville, Kentucky; Daniel (Heather) Dod, Santa Monica, California; David (Katie) Dod, Atlanta, Georgia, and four great grandchildren, Jacob Gross, Josephine Gross, Vincent Kumler and Hadleigh Dod. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Two brothers preceded her in death, Guy (Marie) Blevins and Ray (Frances) Blevins.
Tributes may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church, Monticello. Hickey \u0026 Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
