Oscar Jones went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 20, 2020, after a long illness with dementia, in Katy, Texas. Oscar was born on May 14, 1932 in Wayne County, Kentucky to the late Oscar David Jones and Martha Coffey Jones. It is said that he was delivered by his Grandma Jones, who was a midwife, at their farm in Wayne County.
Oscar grew up and graduated from Newport High School in Newport, Kentucky, and then went on to graduate from the University of Cincinnati in 1955 with a Chemical Engineering Degree. He attended Newport Baptist Church where he came to know and serve Christ.
Oscar's career began in Ohio, where he worked for Standard Oil Company. In 1967, he moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, where he began his thirty year stint with Conoco, Inc. During his time with Conoco, he was able to live and work in many exciting areas of the world, including Houston, South Texas (Uvalde), Milne Point, Alaska, New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Netherlands. He managed many successful engineering projects until 1997, when he retired from Conoco.
Oscar and his wife Maggie moved to Katy, Texas, in 1993. He was a member of St. Peter's Methodist Church, in Katy, where he was in the Heritage Sunday School Class.
Oscar had many hobbies, including investing in the stock market, gardening, attending airplane shows, volunteering on the tall ship Elissa at the Texas Seaport Museum in Galveston, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Margaret Jones; his daughter, Leslie Kohnen and her husband Mike Kohnen; son-in-law, Robert Martin; his two stepchildren, Tanya Gural Musa and her husband Andrew Musa and Alexei Gural; his grandchildren, Allison (Kohnen) Rohling and her husband Weldon Rohling, Mackenzie (Kohnen) Kirkpatrick and her husband Justin Kirkpatrick, Madison (Kohnen) Barrington and her husband Scott Barrington, Connor Martin, Carly (Martin) Null and her husband Blake Null and Jake Musa; he was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Georgia Null and Suzanna Null; his sisters, Cora Lee Young and Janet Losey and her husband Frank Losey.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Catherine Jones Brand; and by a daughter, Kimberly (Jones) Martin.
A memorial service will be held at the Jonesville Cemetery in Monticello, Kentucky, on July 22, 2021 at 1:00PM.
