'Pearl Correll Shearer, age 98, was born in the Frazer community of Wayne County, November 22, 1912, the daughter of the late James Robert and Rhoda Mary Hollars Correll. She passed away after an extended illness, Friday evening, December 10th at the Golden Years Nursing Home.
She was united in marriage with Alfred Martin Shearer who passed away February 4, 1984. Surviving are three children: Nancy Shearer Rust of Lafayette, Louisiana; Dr. Gene Shearer of Bethesda, Maryland and Dr. David Shearer of Walton, Kentucky.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren: David Shearer Jr.; Dr. Clay Shearer; Matthew Shearer; Nathan Shearer; Marilee Turner; Andrew Rust; Jessica Maddry and fifteen great grandchildren.
Mrs. Shearer was the last survivor of the James Robert Correll family. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Delma Hollars, Allie Turpin, Elizabeth Correll, Muriel Worsham and brothers, Ed, Robert, Marion and Tom Correll.
She graduated from Lindsey Wilson Junior College and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Kentucky University. She began her teaching career at Jonesville in a one room school, riding her mare from her home in Frazer to Jonesville every weekend. She taught for thirty years in the Wayne County and Fort Thomas Schools.
At the age of twelve Mrs. Shearer accepted Christ as her Savior, was baptized in the family pond and became a member of the New Salem Baptist Church. She was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church until her passing.
