Robert M. Wixson, Jr. was born on February 7, 1950, in Dodge City, Kansas. He was the son of the late Robert and Maxine Clark Wixson. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Along with his loving wife of 40 years, Melinda Denney Wixson he is survived by two daughters, Dr. Jennifer Stivers (Chris) and Dr. Sarah Elliott (Scott), and four grandchildren, Jared and Mia Stivers and Samuel and Kathryn Elliott. He is also survived by one sister, Dr. Penelope Codding and one brother, Joseph M. Wixson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Wixson.

Robert was a graduate of the University of Kentucky where he was a 3-year letter winner on the football team (1970-1972). After achieving his Bachelor's and Rank I degrees in education, Robert followed his passion for football by coaching at various high schools throughout Kentucky and Georgia, finally landing in Monticello as the head football coach at Wayne County High School. He continued working in the school system in various roles in administration, retiring as Principal from Wayne County Middle School in 2008.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello, where he served as Head Usher for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed spending countless hours playing golf and supporting UK athletics, especially football and basketball. He served on a number of boards and committees throughout the community and the school system.

Robert will be sadly missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, December 18, 2023, between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm in the chapel of the Hickey Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: First Baptist Church Building Fund.
