'Samuel Ellis Phillips, age 77, was born November 20, 1939, the son of the late Samuel Cage and Nancy Jane Jones Phillips. He passed away Monday, October 23, at this home on College Street.
On June 4, 1999 he united in marriage with Sandra Elizabeth Sutt Phillips who survives.
He is preceded in death by his first wife; Nettie Florence Matthews Phillips who passed away December 17, 1996. To this union six children survive: David Lee (Karen) Phillips, Denver Dwayne (Rhoda) Phillips, Marty Tate (Becky) Phillips, Tammie Florence (Billy) Gregory, Jeff Allen (Ashley) Phillips and Kristy Lynette (Cass) Gregory.
Also surviving is his sister: Hazel Jones; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.
He is preceded in death by a grandson and two great grandchildren and his siblings: Clara Phillips Jones, Lori Phillips Kendrick, Zona Phillips, France, Obie and Ovie Phillips; and half siblings: Effie, Cletus, Thomas, Bernice and Patty Phillips.
Samuel was a retired Coal Miner with Blue Diamond Cola Company. In 1958 he accepted Christ as his Savior and became a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church where her remained faithful as long as his health allowed.',
