'Retired Chief Master sergeant, Van Reid Bertram, 68, passed away March 29, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Tucson, AZ after a courageous and heroic fight with a long-term illness. He always used to say, 'It's a good day to be alive!' even after he got sick.
He is the son of the late Kaywood and Gertie Bertram and preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Clair. Van is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, who always stood by his side, Pamela Abbott Bertram, two children Lori Clair and Mark Bertram, four grandchildren, Shantel Clair, Vanessa Bertram, Anthony Bertram and Alicia Chacon, his sister Jeanette Bertram Burris, niece Shannon Corder, and great nephew Colby Corder.
Van is a veteran of the Vietnam War and Gulf War. He joined the Air Force in 1966 and served his country for over 30 years. After he retired, he loved working on cars with his son, reading, walking in the mountains, and enjoyed hanging out with his grandkids.
Van Reid Bertram was a hero to his country, to his family, and to many of his friends. He never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed! This is not goodbye but see you later Pops!
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Van Bertram's name to The Micheal J. Fox Foundation, for Parkinson's Research.
'It's better to live the connected life rather than the surrounded life!'
