Vela Marie Burnett gained her heavenly wings on the morning of April 3rd,2022 at the Wayne County Hospital, reaching the age of 80 years.

Vela Marie Burnett was born June 14 ^th , 1941, the daughter of the late Cleo Rector and Beulah Burnett of the Griffin Community. As a young woman she had accepted Christ and became a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was presently a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

In January 1960 Vela and Curtis were married. Vela was preceded in death by her husband Curtis B. Burnett February 11 ^th , 2013. He has been waiting 9 years for her to gain her heavenly wings. She was a very loving and caring person and she's not missing him anymore. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Johnnie Burnett, Alta Lewis, Nancy Haynes, Imogene Critchlow, and Martha Neal.

To this union three children survive: Daniel (Kippe) Burnett, Jerry Burnett, and Carolyn Carrender. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Nicole Nethercutt, Justin, Kyle, Courtney Carrender, Olivia Burnett, and two great grandchildren; Emma Carrender and Jensen Nethercutt, and six surviving siblings; Mary Kidd, CR Burnett Jr., Betty Decker, David Burnett, Leta Piercy, and Dovie Jones.

Vela Enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and going to church. She was an excellent cook and wanted everyone to eat and eat just a little more.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 8 ^th from 5PM until 8PM in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 9 ^th at 1PM in the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
